Slow – a site-specific movement and sound performance in the Kruoja River

The rivers flowing across the plains of Northern Lithuania have patiently sought their courses for centuries. Yet during the modernisation of the landscape, as wetlands were transformed into agricultural fields, not only did their untamed flow change, but so too did our relationship with the environment.
Slow is a site-specific performance in the Kruoja River that draws inspiration from its gentle current and local histories: the origins of the town of Pakruojis’ name, the houses of worship once established along the river, and the floods that forced people to wait until bridges once again connected the swollen banks.
At a time of accelerating change and growing uncertainty, the movement and sound performance invites audiences to immerse in being with the river. In doing so, it opens a space to attune to the sympoietic relations of the surrounding environment, experience ourselves as bodies of water, and discover balance within constant flow.
The performance will take place on 29 August at 3:00 pm in Pakruojis Town Park. The event is free and open to everyone. The starting point is Pakruojis Town Amphitheatre. The duration of the performance is approximately 40 minutes.
During the performance, audiences will be invited to walk approximately 300 metres alongside the performers. The route includes uneven terrain; however, those who prefer may remain on the main pathway. The performance incorporates excerpts of texts by the poet Fanny Howe.
Please note that the event will be photographed and filmed.
