More than two hundred years ago, the writer Dionizas Poška cut down a millennium-old dead oak tree in his backyard and turned it into the first museum in Lithuania – the ‘Baublys’. It was not only a tree, but also a place that held national memory, knowledge and dreams.

Today, a similar creative look lives on in the backyards of Lithuanian farmhouses: old tyres turn into white swans, crooked branches into mysterious snakes, and a car scrap proudly strikes a transformer pose. From what is left, what is precious is born. Yards become small worlds full of hidden stories, warmth and imagination.

We invite you to experience one of these small miracles on Sunday afternoon 15 June in Akee.
At the event, artist Vladas Suncovas will present his research on the origins of the bauble phenomenon and share stories from the film he is currently working on with artist Laurynas Skeisgiela. After the lecture, the courtyard will be filled with music: a special performance by the “Sodas Chorus”, who will greet the birth of the baubles in Akee Park with their songs for the occasion.

The event will also include a presentation of the renewed Akee space. For those coming from further afield, please also visit the Stasys Museum in Panevėžys, which is currently hosting a new exhibition “And the wind will carry us away” (curator Lina Albrikienė) and the installation “Children’s Forest Pavilion” (curated by Jurga Daubaraitė, Egija Inzule, Jonas Žukauskas). Just tell the museum reception that you are going to the birth of the Akee bauble.

After the event, we invite you to have dinner around the campfire and enjoy the warm summer evening. If you would like to stay overnight, please contact info@akee.lt in advance to arrange a place.

The event will be filmed and photographed. By participating you agree to be photographed.
